AFH-Category Management Director (Job Code #T002-1128)

Oversight and management of the Away-from-Home (AFH) paper towel and tissue product
portfolio to include product development, market and competitive research; generation and
maintenance of product requirements & specifications, production & operations liaison, costing
and pricing management, and cross functional development of market strategies and timeintegrated
plans for product introduction and maintenance to produce profitable ongoing
business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership / management of the AFH Product Commercialization and Product Category efforts, including front-end review and development of product criteria, improvement ideas and needs, support execution of product development trials and development of process and materials improvement initiatives to the benefit of the organization.
  • Provide both business leadership perspective, and direct support to U.S. TBU production facilities, including OEM’s, to execute both Feasibility and Capability trials for new AFH product set-up, roll-outs and process/materials optimization through a cooperative multidisciplined team consisting of Facility, Operations & Manufacturing, R&D and Marketing & Sales personnel.
  • This position provides a strong focus towards discipline and control to the AFH Product Development and Product Management initiatives with the goal of increasing Speed to Market, Reducing Waste, Improving Quality and Profitability of the product portfolio.
  • Direct management and ongoing oversight of AFH Product Pricing, Product Specifications and General Product Portfolio support.
  • A secondary responsibility will be to integrate Marketing Product Development Initiatives (Voice of the Customer) with Manufacturing Process Needs (Voice of the Process).

Job Requirements

Education and Experience Background

  • B.S. degree in related Business, Engineering or Technical; MBA preferred
  • 8 - 10 years proven relevant working experience; retail or jansan paper industry preferred

Skills and Knowledge

  • Product / Category Management, development, new product development, product concepts
  • Product financials, cost / pricing, business & sales history and profitability analysis
  • Strong Project management skills
  • Critical thinking and evaluation with application to business analysis, trends, pricing & profitability analysis.
  • Technical orientation and vigilant attention to details.
  • Proven and Professional Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient in professional office skills, and the following: MS Office, MS Excel, MS Outlook,

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of applicable manufacturing and converting capabilities and associated processes by Product Category and available Manufacturing Equipment.
  • Develop a strong and transparent relationship with Business & Category Management Teams, Product Development Teams, Procurement, Facility Operating & Manufacturing Teams and Quality Control.
  • Create Win-Win Opportunities and foster a Consensus Approach to Problem Solving in Product Development & Management Initiatives.
  • Support identified Acquisition / Divestiture activities.
  • Strong writing and speaking communication skills & ability to communicate technical issues to a non-technical audience.
  • Awareness of, and appreciation for Internal & External Customer’s needs while maintaining a high degree of responsiveness.
  • A keen and focused awareness on detail management, cost analysis & efficiencies, and process management & improvement.
  • Challenge decisions that lead to high risks to the business in a diplomatic and professionally supportive manner.
