IT Infrastructure Manager (10)

JOB PURPOSE:

The Manager, IT Infrastructure will lead the IT Infrastructure team and ensure timely and accurate:

  • Standardization of IT assets (laptops, desktops, networking, servers, etc.) to be configured and deployed by staff
  • Standardization of processes to handle IT helpdesk requests including setting best in class metrics for the team
  • Management of onsite IT Systems Administrators located in various sites across the US

 

The position will also help plan for growth of the organization by forecasting additional equipment and personnel needs of the team.  The position may support and be involved with planning for Enterprise Application and Integration projects that will have an operational impact to the Infrastructure team once the applications are in production.

 

KEY ROLES:

 

This position is a key management role for the IT Systems Administrators in the IT organization.  This position is the IT internal go-to for questions or issues concerning all operational issues related to IT hardware, software and services.

 

This position provides key information to a number of internal, and external parties.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (3 – 8 AREAS)

Budgeting / Planning

  • On an annual basis, assist the Head of IT to budget for all IT infrastructure asset related costs. On a monthly and quarterly basis, ensure actuals are within line with the budget
  • Estimate IT Infrastructure headcount needs based on projected growth of new facilities and employees across the organization
  • Provide guidance on best practices when laying out new offices / facilities that require IT asset deployment
  • Plan for refresh cycles of critical IT assets and its refurbishment
  • Plan for the adoption of new technologies that may help with IT operations as they become available in the market

 

Information Technology Expertise:

  • Continue to be well informed on current and new IT developments as it pertains to how the company leverages IT infrastructure to support the business
  • Provide recommendations for new IT assets based on industry knowledge and expertise

 

Vendor Management:

  • Based on knowledge of current industry trends, negotiate the best pricing to benefit ratio for hardware, software and services
  • Review and maintain contract terms to ensure we are in compliance and determine reallocation of licenses based on usage
  • When licenses are up for renewal, review needs and renegotiate terms as necessary
  • Keep in contact with multiple vendors to ensure there is always competitive bidding for new or renewal of IT assets
  • Be a liaison between the vendor and the department that will have IT assets deployed. Ensure there is adequate communication between all relevant parties

 

Process Optimization:

  • Document current processes (i.e. network/server maintenance, audio visual equipment maintenance, etc.) so that all IT Infrastructure staff can consistently repeat all tasks across the board
  • Continuously review processes to determine how to optimize them. Either by reducing the time for the entire process or allowing for more optimization
  • Promote the concept of an employee self-service model for IT related needs

Projects:

  • Assist as needed on IT implementation projects such as new facilities or system implementations

 

Supervise & Manage Direct Reports:

  • Manage and train staff to ensure they are performing effectively and guide them on their career path
  • Define and measure metrics for staff

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (JOB SPECS):

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent preferred in computer engineering or computer information systems
  • Certified MCSE and CCNA preferred
  • Experience of 5 to 7 years managing IT Infrastructure operations
  • Experience with networking protocols: Active directory, TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, 802.11 a/b/ac/n/g
  • Experience with client server technologies on Windows 10, Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2, 2016
  • Familiarity with private cloud providers Azure, AWS, GCP
  • Strong attention to detail & time management skills
  • Quick learner and able to work independently
  • Strong organization, communication, analytical and problem solving skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

This job is in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, email, phones/cell, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  There is sitting and repetitive hand, finger and wrist use.  The position may be required on occasion to travel by car and airline to offices across the US


Key Responsibilities

DEPARTMENT:

IT Infrastructure is part of the Information Technology department.  The Manager, IT Infrastructure will manage the processes, people and systems necessary to support the employees in the USA Tissue Business Unit (TBU).  There are currently nearly 500 full time employees across 14 states in US TBU. The remainder of the Information Technology department consists of on-site IT Systems Administrators and Enterprise Applications & Integrations staff.
