BusinessGreen Hosts Zero Deforestation Twitter Debate with APP's Director of Sustainability

Atlanta, GA - (October 20, 2014)

BusinessGreen invites Aida Greenbury, Asia Pulp & Paper Group (APP) Director of Sustainability, to participate in a Twitter debate discussing APP’s Zero Deforestation Commitment and the positive impact this commitment will have on the global environment. The debate is scheduled to take place on October 30, 2014, at 11 AM (EST).

As one of the world’s largest paper producers, APP recognizes the impact their business has on the global environment, as well as the opportunity to be a leader in the Zero Deforestation movement. In 2013, APP implemented their Forest Conservation Policy, which effectively put an immediate end to all natural forest clearance throughout its entire supply chain. And in September 2014, APP attended the UN Climate Summit, during which APP Chairman Teguh Ganda Wijaya signed the New York Declaration on Forests along with several other influential companies, NGO’s, and world leaders.

The Declaration on Forests challenges signees to commit to a vision of slowing, halting and reversing global forest loss, while simultaneously contributing to economic growth, poverty alleviation, rule of law, food security, climate resilience and biodiversity conservation.

BusinessGreen editor James Murray is to host the Twitter discussion with Greenbury. Topics will include, but are not limited to:

  • APP’s Zero Deforestation Commitment and Forest Conservation Policy.
  • Challenges and opportunities faced by the wider global forestry sector.
  • The increasing demand driven by consumer goods giants for forest-related products.
  • The action, or lack thereof, governments are taking to eliminate deforestation and illegal logging.
