Strategic Sourcing - APP
Our strategic supply partnership with Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) helps us manage and maintain a vertically integrated business model that provides our customers with the economic and quality benefits of an efficient, responsibly managed organization.
As one of the world’s largest pulp and paper companies, APP is responsible for delivering quality products to meet the growing global demand for tissue, packaging and paper. On any given day, APP products find their way into the hands of consumers in various branded forms, all over the world. APP markets its products in more than 120 countries, spread across six continents.
In June 2012, APP published their “Sustainability Roadmap: Vision 2020,” a milestone in the organization’s history. It committed APP to a journey that places sustainability at the heart of every facet of their operation.
On February 5, 2013, APP published the “Forest Conservation Policy,” the most significant part of which was the announcement of an immediate end to all natural forest clearance throughout their entire supply chain.
The goal is clear—Zero Deforestation—and this applies to the entire APP supply chain. APP is working with The Forest Trust (TFT) and a number of other NGOs and stakeholders to oversee implementation of policy and monitor APP’s progress.
APP works to balance demand for quality products against the natural resources available to deliver them. APP operates in a particularly sensitive area of the world, and natural capital is the root of APP’s own capital. With a priority on climate, conservation, community and commerce—APP is determined to find ways to enable these four issues to thrive in harmony with each other.
