Solaris Paper Supports a Greener Sports Industry

Atlanta, GA – (March 16, 2015) – Solaris Paper, Inc. (SPI) is a proud event sponsor and exhibitor for the fifth annual Green Sports Alliance Summit being held in Chicago, Ill. on June 29-July 1, 2015.

According to the Green Sports Alliance, the annual Green Sports Alliance Summit is the largest and most influential sustainability gathering for the professional and university-level sports community. The event brings together more than 800 industry stakeholders to learn and share better practices and the latest innovations in greening operations, advancing the supply chain, engaging fans and more responsibly managing sporting facilities.

Recognizing the influence the sporting industry has on regional and national communities, as well as the need to focus on sustainable public spaces, the Alliance is dedicated to fostering a dialogue with stakeholders and fans about environmental stewardship.

The 2015 Summit features an array of notable guest speakers including Beth Stevens - Senior VP of Corporate Citizenship for The Walt Disney Company, Stefanie Young - Technical Business Development Lead at the U.S. Green Building Council, Andrew Ference - Captain and Defenseman for the Edmonton Oilers, and others.

Each year, the Summit highlights the most innovative ideas around professional and collegiate sports greening via a dynamic mix of leadership plenaries, keynotes, how-to workshops, town halls, story-telling sessions, networking events and venue tours.

About Green Sports Alliance
The Green Sports Alliance leverages the cultural and market influence of sports to promote healthy, sustainable communities where we live and play. This is done by inspiring sports leagues, teams, venues, their partners and millions of fans to embrace renewable energy, healthy food, recycling, water efficiency, species preservation, safer chemicals and other environmentally preferable practices.

Alliance members represent nearly 300 sports teams and venues from 20 different sports leagues and 14 countries.

Since February of 2010, the Alliance has brought together venue operators, sports team executives and environmental scientists to exchange information about better practices and develop solutions to their environmental challenges that are cost-competitive and innovative. The information gathered from this collaboration is available to Alliance members in order that they gain a better understanding of how sporting events can be performed in an environmentally sensitive manner.

The Green Sports Alliance was conceived and founded by Paul G. Allen’s Vulcan Inc. and the Natural Resources Defense Council. Inaugural members and partners of the Alliance include the Seattle Seahawks, Portland Trail Blazers, Seattle Sounders FC, Seattle Mariners, Seattle Storm, Vancouver Canucks, the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, Green Building Services, and Milepost Consulting.
